Natural dyeing

Come and experience the magic of natural dyeing with plants, herbs and food-waste such as avocado seeds!

Join one of my workshops (at 1pm or 4pm) in my art-studio in Leiden on Friday 20-12-2019 (English spoken) or Wednesday 18-12-2019 in Dutch and learn how to dye fabric with plant-materials and food-waste. A clean but also fascinating proces that yields the most natural colours and is easy to do at home.

Reserve your place by sending an email to gemma@gemma.nl and specifying at which time you would like to come.

For more information, take a look at my Facebook page or Instagram account.

Who am I?

I am a designer/artist and a social psychologist and enjoy both careers working from my studio at the Haagweg in Leiden.

As a designer and artist  I am always looking towards exploring new idea’s and possibilities in my work. These last few years I have become increasingly aware of how we as designers could contribute towards creating a cleaner world.

Recently my research into using more ecological and environmentally responsible clean products has resulted in experimenting with dyeing natural fibres with left-over food (such as avocado seeds, black beans, cabbage,  onions skins etc. ) as well as plant-materials and herbs.
This exciting new process yields the most beautiful colors and has opened up a whole new world for me.

What I would like to show during the dutch design month 2019 is the proces and preliminary results of the research and experiments I am currently undertaking as well as teaching you how to colour your world with natural colours.  Recycling food, upcycling old materials and hopefully in the near future creating new innovative designs with the results of my research is my new path.
